Putting the 'High' Back in High Heels

Bonjour!
I've noticed some rather interesting heels going down the runway this past month. Warped heels seem to be all the rage. I can't imagine how the models are fairing, having to walk in 5 inch stilettos that end in a pinprick point. It must be reminiscent of walking on stilts. Rodarte features a sort of stacked abacus heel. Certainly an interesting concept but not my cup of tea. Then you have Versace who went with the skyscraper-high theme. This shoe has way too much going on! With the silver, wood, pink, white, and lace I just don't know where to look. Proenza Schouler has a futuristic meets reptile look but is still tasteful. If you like this shoe, then you'd like their boots even more! Mui Mui reminded me of a pair a pair of great Vivienne Westwood heels from a long time a go. They're bright pink and, unfortunately, not in my closet. They share that 80's disco heel and brick thick platform I adore. Moving on to Galliano! Similar to Rodarte's concept but with pearls. That shoe belongs in a pin cushion! A fabulous pin cushion for a fabulous shoe. The infamous platforms pop up once again, to the models' dismay. I think these shoes would have fallen flat had in not been for the height...no pun intended! As you can see, I have two pictures for Chanel, because I found both shoes equally unique. The first appears to be in black velvet with an ivory heel. If you look closely you can see the gorgeous details that spiral up it. The second picture shoes an adorable little shoe all dressed up for afternoon tea. The flowers are done in such a way as to keep the feminine yet classy edge of Chanel intact. A especially admire the heel that mirrors a woman's physique. Maybe I'm being to analytical? Sorry if I am! And now for the Louis Vuitton eskimo boots. Studded leather shoes have been appearing in a lot of shows this season. Chanel, for instance, had a pair of clogs with a rim of rustic studs encircling the rim. Metallic pink heel on these provide a nice contrast from the rest of the nude colour palette. If you're wondering why I have nothing on Alexander McQueen it's because I think he deserves a special post. OKAY! SO, recap on Winter 2010 shoes! Platforms aren't going anywhere, nor are mile high heels. Warped heels are coming up, which means twisted, cracked, stacked, you name it! Don't be afraid to pull off thick heels...but if you're going to, then own it. Shoes that look like they've been made from a magical "Snow Yak" are equally cool. That's my advice for winter! Good luck!

The Scoop on Spring 2010

I'm not crazy about the pea green and red in the same line. The blazer paired with matching shorts will be great for Summer, though!

Alexander Wang had a sherlock holmes meets sailor collection. Although it sounds daunting it was actually quite well done.

I distinctly remember making a mental note of Alexandre Herchovitch's collection. It's filled with bright colours and knee high socks.

Classic Betsey Johnson! Over the top, girly, and irresistible.

Never seen THAT before...come on! You can do better, Calvin Klein!

Christopher Anastase's models rocked a pair of cartoon-esque overalls and a red renaissance smock. The black boots give it a modern edge.

Christopher Kane paire innocent gingham with a seductive milk maid silhouette.

DKNY manages to make high fashion pjs...that's what they look like to me, anyway. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, though! Now we can look glamorous 24/7.

Without that small heart clasp and white lace gloves I would not have been nearly as keen on that tan dress. Erin Fetherston tied these two outfits together subtly but smoothly.

Giorgio Armani made a girl look better in men's clothes then an actual man. Cheers!

Just Cavalli did not wow me by any means. He should have taken more risks and not played it so safe.

Luella dressed their models up in a 60's frock and coat, completing their signature baby doll look with a neat little bow.

Marc Jacobs more affordable line, Marc by Marc Jacobs, gives you a mismatched Out of the Closet collection. Of course, neither of these pieces would be complete with out a big bow!

My favourite pieces from Marc Jacob's collection are not necessarily the most symbolic. It's more pastel circus whereas the two looks above give off a more romantic fairy tale vibe.

Oscar de la Renta ditched the classic red gowns and opted for khaki instead. I'm loving the eccentric sleeves on that white blouse.

Prada contrasting sleek graphite grey with a bright red kiss.

Proenza Schoeler ....the attractive duo. The second look is reminiscent of one of Louis Vuitton's Fall 09 ensembles.

Ralph Lauren looking as preppy as ever.

Rodarte featuring emo black shreds that I'd hesitate before wearing.

I miss Tory Burch's old stuff but I guess she can't design embroider hippie clothing forever.

Vera Wang did not blow me away.

c
Vivienne Westwood is charming as always. The white lace ups are similar to a pair of Ann Demeulemeester's. She's setting the stage for a Chitty Chitty Bang Bang picnic.

Zac Posen picked great colours for these pieces. Also, the collars were a nice touch along with the tiny black heart on the yellow dress.

Bonjour!
It is one in the morning and I am absolutely exhausted. I haven't posted in over a week because school has been very hectic. Here's what I think will happen from now on. I'll do a bunch of posts one night a week so that I can focus more on homework. I have also decided to change my font, as a lot of people have complained that Courier was too hard to read. I know this post is exceedingly long but I felt it necessary to thoroughly represent Spring 2010. I've simplified things so that you don't have to watch each collection of each designer in order to get the gist of upcoming trends. Please take in to consideration that I have not commented on every single designer I would have liked to. That would have taken me waay too long and I need sleep. Instead I picked a handful of my favourite designers and then chose two pieces from each that spoke to me. Some common themes were big hair bows, bright colors, khaki, knee high socks, and leather saddle shoes. I see a lot of romantic old-fashion inspired ensembles. I'd type more but my pillow is all too inviting.
